Golf Tournament

The Florida Scramble is a variation on the typical scramble in which one player on each team sits out each shot. A scramble works like so: Each player on the team (usually groups of four, but groups of three work also) tees off. The best of the four shots is selected, all players move their balls to that spot and play their second shots. The best of the second shots is selected, all players move their balls to that spot and play their third shots; and so on until the ball is holed.

In a Florida Scramble, the twist is that the player whose shot is selected doesn’t get to play the next shot. So, in a Florida Scramble with teams of four, all four players tee off, the best shot is selected, then only three players hit their second shots. The best of the second shots is selected – and the player who hit it sits out the third shots; and so on until the ball is holed.

A Florida Scramble can help spread the “best shots” around among teammates, but it does mean that one player has to sit out every shot.

Golf Clinic

If you ain’t got it – it’s never too late to get it! HMSDC will be conducting a Golf Clinic for wanna be golfers – minority business owners and corporate members who want to practice their swing under the guidance of an accomplished golf pro. So you miss the ball a few times, but you won’t miss the opportunity to laugh and learn with other minority business owners and corporate members who may help drive some business your way.

The instructions are definitely “hands on.” Come on out the driving range and practice on how to grip a club, swing it, and actually hit the ball. Each pro will instruct small groups of five to ten novices and focus on the fundamentals of golfing. Don’t worry about purchasing or renting golf equipment. Golf clubs and balls are provided by Black Horse Country Club. Your favorite sneakers will suffice for golf shoes.

The clinic will be conducted from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The cost of the clinic will include practice on the driving range guided by pros, additional practice time on your own, free beverages and snacks, and the awards luncheon – yet another great networking opportunity. So don’t be caught on the sidelines, GET ON THE GREEN.
